The Bible calls Christians to speak the truth, urging:
“Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor” (Ephesians 4:25).
Christians ought to tell the truth and we ought to encourage others to do so as well—especially in today’s relativistic culture. Sadly, however, standing for what is true can often subject you to intense opposition. In fact, even some progressive secularists have been exempted from taking a media beating when standing for what is true.
Liberal icon J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter book series, is one example. After tax expert Maya Forstater lost her job for stating on social media that one’s biological sex was unchangeable, Rowling tweeted in support of Forstater. The backlash to Rowling was shocking.
What makes the reaction against her even more surprising is that in her tweet, Forstater pushed many of the beliefs endorsed by leftism today:
“Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real? #IStandWithMaya #ThisIsNotADrill”[i]
Rowling’s deviation from the single issue of gender ideology overcame her support for so many other liberal positions.
Forstater took her unjust firing to court in the United Kingdom, and the judge promptly sided with the gender extremists, announcing that holding a belief that there actually were biological males and females was “not worthy of respect in a democratic society.”[ii]
This ruling bodes poorly for free speech in the United Kingdom and opens the door for banning any speech that people find offensive or that is politically correct.[iii]This creates a nation in which there is no room for unpopular viewpoints and means you can be legally punished for telling the truth.
Jesus tells u in John 8:32 that “the truth will set you free.” So, if freedom is to survive, being able to speak the truth is a necessity. Americans should take note of this, for especially in the realms of politics, business, media, and social media, we, too, are punishing those who speak the truth. Whenever those who tell the truth are deemed “unworthy” of participation in society, you no longer have a free society.
