Christmas Visions

Luke 2:1-20

Really, what do you envision when you think of Christmas? It can cause a variety of visions for you, for your church, for all those outside of Christ standing at the Christmas window just looking in to wonder and dream of what Christmas is. We might see Scrooge and Rudolph. Maybe it is comfortable relaxation with family, or Christmas is commercial and over-scheduled. Some envision God’s perfect salvation, the Gospel, in the coming of Jesus Christ, Messiah. Others enjoy an inspirational fairytale. Possibly for some it is the Nativity scene or the tree piled high with gifts. Or perhaps it is “visions of sugar plums dancing in your head,” whatever that is. If we were to see God’s vision of this event so many years ago, how would it be affecting us as His children?

Luke 2:9, “An angel Of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.” God has placed His awesomeness in us for those around us to look in and be awed as well.

Luke 2:14, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to all men on whom His favor rests.” God should receive glory from us and through us for others to experience. He has positioned us for this. He has favored us for this purpose. He has given His perspective to us to live by and to pass on to others. Just as the shepherd’s eyes were opened to see this great sight, so our eyes should see and our vision should be inescapable for those around us to see.

When this happens and we then share the life-changing effects it has on our families, neighbors, friends and school mates, then, we cannot help but want to follow Mary’s response found in Luke 2:19, “Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Call it “storing up God’s awe.” When our eyes are seeing what God has for us, then we store these up to be used again and again as needed. All we see, all we hear, all Jesus has done for us, are readily available to be shared with everyone He places in our lives.

So, do it, show it, tell it, at every opportunity given you. It is God’s Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the only hope for this sick and dying world, this nation, this state, this neighborhood, this family. Let it change you, let it change others. Do not hold it back. God tell it everywhere, to everyone … JESUS CHRIST IS BORN!
