When God created woman in Genesis 2:18, He said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” So woman was made for man, and each of them is a complement to complete the other. Benjamin Franklin understood this Biblical truth, affirming:
Man and woman have each of them qualities and tempers in which the other is deficient and which in union contribute to the common felicity [happiness]. Single and separate, they are not the complete human being; they are like the odd halves of scissors; they cannot answer the end of their formation.[1]
Males and females serve two very different but important roles. However, their complementary fulfillment of the other’s purpose will not exist if there is no difference between the two—if the two genders become the same. The current social rejection of gender is nothing less than an act of pure irrationality, and the ridiculousness from this socio-political shift has become readily evident in the legal arena.
In one recent case, a teacher was fired for referring to a student by the student’s proper legal name rather than that student’s gender pronoun of choice. Although the teacher explained to the school that using the student’s self-identified pronoun (which did not match the student’s biological gender) violated his religious beliefs, his objections were dismissed as irrelevant.[2] The fact that this kind of zero-tolerance policy was applied to a blatant rejection of indisputable scientific fact is deeply disturbing.
In another lawsuit, a group of female students in Pennsylvania sued the school for allowing members of the male sex to use female restrooms, citing violations of their own privacy rights; but that court likewise rejected biological distinctions.[3] This legal refusal to provide women basic protection against sexual harassment is unprecedented and threatens to reverse the progress that has been made in recent decades in protecting vulnerable youth from sexual mistreatment.
One school, in an effort to find a solution for the legal and public relations quagmire of the current climate, has proposed a $2.4 million dollar project to build isolated, individual, gender-neutral changing rooms.[4] While many of us might have rejoiced to have our very own personal changing area in high school, it is ludicrous that this school is forced to expend such massive amounts of taxpayer money merely to avoid legal persecution for not being trans-sensitive.
Once upon a time, the male/female binary was accepted as fact because it merely recognized an obvious indisputable biological truth that governs our world. But that time of unified belief is no more. Even some feminists have recognized the major issues for them that arise with “sex eliminationism.”
This new approach will cause a massive restructuring of society by distorting the measures of social welfare (such as censuses) because it will fail to account for the genuine biological distinction between man and woman.[5] Our legal and sociological systems become less and less efficient as they twist themselves up to avoid creating “controversy.” Such efforts waste time, weaken social cohesion, and create conflict and strife where that energy (and money) could be better directed to much more productive ends.
