Fear—Not Climate Change—Could Render Us Extinct

Alarmists have been predicting “the end of the world as we know it”[1] since Biblical times, but the Bible instructs us to “not follow after them” (Luke 21:8). Recently, doomsday prophecies have become the favorite of climate scaremongers who routinely declare that the world’s end is at hand.

For example, at the 2020 World Economic Forum (WEF) 17-year-old activist Greta Thunberg rebuked world leaders:

“One year ago I came to Davos and told you that our house is on fire. I said I wanted you to panic...And, for the record, when we children tell you to panic we’re not telling you to go on like before...I wonder, what will you tell your children was the reason to fail and leave them facing a climate chaos that you knowingly brought upon them?”[2]

She is far from alone in such statements. Several leading politicians are now declaring it a crisis, with some going so far to liken it to World War II.[3]

Sadly, these outrageous calls for panic have caused mass anxiety in the younger generation, leading them to declare they will not have children of their own for the sake of the planet. This “No Future, No Children” pledge campaign is garnering teenage support with signees declaring:

“I am giving up my chance of having a family because I will only have children if I know I can keep them safe.”[4]

And: “I am taking this pledge because I don’t want to give birth to a child that will feel the same climate anxiety and fear as I do.”

However, such predictions are largely based off of faulty, incomplete, and often agenda-ridden “science.” In fact, more and more scientists are rejecting climate alarmism as a bunk hypothesis grounded on fabrications instead of facts.[5]

Based on the scientific evidence that fear-mongers deliberately ignore, President Trump countered the alarmists in his own address to the WEF in Davos, telling them:

“[To] embrace the possibilities of tomorrow, we must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of the apocalypse. They are the heirs of yesterday’s foolish fortune-tellers...They predicted an overpopulation crisis in the 1960s, mass starvation in the ’70s, and an end of oil in the 1990s. These alarmists always demand the same thing: absolute power to dominate, transform, and control every aspect of our lives.”[6]

The Bible is clear that God is in control of the world, explaining that:

“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall never cease” (Genesis 8:22).

Furthermore, we need to reassure the younger generations that:

“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7).

The next generation still needs to be confident and hopeful, obeying God’s command to “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28) instead of allowing someone else’s baseless fear of an imagined bogeyman to control their lives.
