Lies and Purity

In the Psalmist David’s day, he found himself distraught. It seemed that everyone in the world around him were full of lies and flattery for their own gain. No one could be trusted. It sounds like David had his own “swamp” with which to deal.

Psalm 12[a]

1 Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore… 2 Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts.

5 “Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord… 7 You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, 8 who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race.

We find ourselves in the same kind of predicament today. Even in our national elections, a once revered and trusted system, we have little to trust any longer. An example is the use of certain electronic voting systems used for counting votes in many states. The system in question is known as Dominion. Its history of development and ownership is a sordid one with ties to Venezuela, George Soros, Sequoia Voting Systems and Smartmatic. There have been denials about their connections. Yet, in an article from AONNews we read that, “George Soros has been caught lying about its connection to Dominion…Smartmatic once owned Sequoia… but divested from its U.S. holdings following a 2007 court ruling with Dominion purchasing the company in 2010.” But, “a recently resurfaced 2015 interview with chairman Mark Malloch Brown shows this is far from the truth.” [1]. In this interview Mark Mallock Brown refers to this tie as current in 2015, setting forth another lie regarding its history of ownership. Those involved seem to assume they will not be caught.

Who can we believe? How does one figure out the true facts, especially when things are moving very fast to decision points? Often we only find the truth when it seems too late, and very difficult to backtrack and correct. “In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak…who are caught in the schemes of his devises…He says to himself, ‘Nothing will shake me; I’ll always be happy and never have trouble…God has forgotten; He covers His face and never sees’…Arise Lord! Lift up your hand, O God…Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, ‘He won’t call me to account.” (Psalm 10) [2].

Here is what we can do. “…the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart…what can the righteous do?...For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice.” (Psalm 11). “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, for He has been good to me.” (Psalm 13:5,6.

Trust God, remain faithful, be purified as gold and silver, pray for God’s justice not yours, and always work hard at that which God has given you to do!
